Could the WWE and TNA partnership get a phenomenal appearance in the form of AJ Styles?
July 20 will see TNA present its second biggest show of the year in Elmont New York. At the time of writing, 2 WWE stars will be in action at the event as TNA World Champion Trick Williams will defend the title against Joe Hendry and Mike Santana and Jacy Jayne will put her NXT Women’s Championship on the line against Knockouts Champion Masha Slamovich in a winner takes all match.
However, following comments from company President Carlos Silva, who teased that the show would be “Phenomenal”, the rumour mill has gone into overdrive that 2-time TNA World Champion Styles will be the latest to make a shock appearance on the opposing brand. According to multiple reports, this looks set to be the case.
As first reported by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, no one in the promotion would give a definitive answer on the rumours, but one source stated that they believed Styles would be there or else the hints would be “a gross misstep.”
Jon Alba of The Takedown on SI added more information, stating the Styles will be appearing at Slammiversary and that it has been in the works for some time, adding that it is a top priority for TNA.
AJ Styles Looks Set For TNA Return
One of the TNA originals, Styles was integral in helping put the promotion on the map and establishing it as the number 2 pro wrestling company in the United States at that time, especially with his rivalries against the likes of Samoa Joe and Christopher Daniels. Leaving TNA in late 2013, Styles competed in NJPW before making his WWE debut in the 2016 Royal Rumble. The Phenomenal One went on to be a grand slam champion following his arrival and looks set to retire as a WWE Superstar.
