Why Ronda Rousey Had Issue With Alexa Bliss Match In WWE

Ronda Rousey has once again been critical about her time in WWE, this time regarding the decision to have the former UFC Champion face Alexa Bliss in a wrestling match.

Shortly after her breakout debut match at WrestleMania 34, Rousey challenged Nia Jax for the Raw Women’s Championship at Money in the Bank. The match ended in DQ as Bliss successfully cashed in her Money in the Bank contract, maintaining the women’s briefcase 100% success rate. As a result of the interference, Rousey went on to challenge Bliss for the title at SummerSlam, and won the championship for the first time in her career, which she also held until WrestleMania 35.

Although the match was high profile, given that both women were big stars in their respective fields, former Women’s Champion Rousey did not understand why the match was booked.

“F*king Ridiculous”: Ronda Rousey On Alexa Bliss Match

Appearing on The Lapsed Fan podcast, the former WWE and UFC star spoke about her match with Bliss back in 2018, claiming that the only reason that she faced the SmackDown star was because of high merch sales:

“The fact that they had me fighting Alexa Bliss at all was f*cking ridiculous,” Rousey said about facing the smaller Bliss. “And you want to know why they had me against Alexa Bliss? Because she had the most merch sales at the time, on that side. Like, what the f*ck? Like, that’s your decision making process?”

The quote drew the attention of AEW star MJF, who stated the following on social media in response to the quote:

“It’s almost like pro wrestling much like any professional sport functions as a business.

F*cking crazy 🤯”

During the same interview, Ronda Rousey stated that she is “pretty much” done with wrestling and has no plans to return to WWE or any other promotion. Alexa Bliss currently reigns as one half of the Women’s Tag Team Champions alongside Charlotte Flair.
