Why Randy Orton lost?

Why Randy Orton lost?

In case you missed it, we have a new WWE Champion. Last night on RAW, Orton was dethroned by new champion Drew McIntyre. Not only is it the Scotsmans second reign, it means that the landscape changes at Survivor Series. Because the theme is champion vs champion, it is now McIntyre vs Roman Reigns in inter-brand battles. But why the most recent switch. Here are a few possible reasons.

A better Survivor Series dynamic

As mentioned, this Sunday, the match will be Roman Reigns vs Drew McIntyre. This is the only champion vs champion match on the card with the traditional face vs heel dynamic. Plus, the feud feels like a bigger draw right now. The biggest face in all of WWE vs the biggest heel, that’s a match more likely to sell network buys.

One step closer to sweet sixteen…

Randy has now won a world championship fourteen times. With the current absence of house shows, he is able to elongate his career even further. There is no reason why he can’t win the title a couple more times in the next few years. This then opens up a few channels for future programmes. To finally close the book on their historic rivalry, expect a title vs career match between Randy and John Cena to see who can get title seventeen and set the new record. While it’s not going to happen in ring, also expect some involvement from Ric Flair.

A Fiend Feud soon!

Bray Wyatt has been teasing a match with Randy Orton for a few weeks now. As he has won most of his feuds with previous people who have wronged him, that would have awarded Wyatt the title. Inevitably, that means that The Fiend will at some point have to lose the title. This hasn’t ended well multiple times. Now with only vengeance as motivation, this rivalry can live to full potential. To reduce the bumps, there might be another Firefly Funhouse match. With his rumoured past, if Randy goes all in on this, it could be as good as the previous Funhouse match.

New opponents for Drew

Since Summerslam, the only opponent Drew has faced for the title has been Randy. Now with the rivalry finished, post Survivor Series and post draft there are some exciting matches in the next few months. How long will the friendship between Drew and Sheamus last now the title is back on McIntyre? Also, if team RAW wins on Sunday, will “captain” AJ want a title match as his reward?
