Finn Balor is now a member of the WWE SmackDown roster, much to the surprise of the fans.
During the June 1 WWE Raw, General Manager Adam Pearce spoke with JD McDonagh and Dominik Mysterio. While McDonagh was complaining that he was not a part of King of the Ring, Pearce also informed The Judgment Day that Balor was now on the blue brand moving forward.
The update was unexpected and not hinted at ahead of time. It is also unknown if a SmackDown star will be moving over to Raw to counteract Balor’s trade. Speaking about the transfer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that the reason for the switch was to get Balor away from The Judgment Day. The former Universal Champion had been feuding with the group extensively since he was kicked out. Meltzer also added that there are no plans for a draft anytime soon:
“I never heard anything about a draft. The idea is they just want to get him away from Dominik Mysterio and JD. He beat JD, and if he stays on Raw, theoretically, how does he not work with those guys? So they just figured they’re done with that, they’re done with Finn Balor doing that, and they wanted to give him a fresh start, and there you go. I mean, that’s kind of a lot of times they do that, they just run a feud, it’s over, and it’s the nature, the nature of the feud is they just don’t want these guys interacting.”
Balor ended his rivalry with The Judgment Day on the May 18 Raw. The Grnad Slam Champion’s final match on the red brand saw him defeat McDonagh in a street fight.
First SmackDown Match Set For Finn Balor
Following Clash in Italy, WWE revealed the brackets for the King nad Queen of the Ring tournaments. Balor is set to be a part of King of the Ring, where he will receive a title match if he is the winner of the tournament. Blor’s first round opponents are Jey Uso, LA Knight and Royce Keys.
Dominik Mysterio’s King of the Ring match will see him face Bron Breakker, Damian Priest and Trick Williams.
