AJ Styles has offered his take on wins and losses in wrestling and why it is not something that concerns him.
While pro wrestling is predetermined, many have argued that the number of wins and losses a star has should be important. There have been multiple instances in wrestling history where a star has picked up a number of big wins but didn’t receive a championship opportunity, and vice versa. However, according to the Hall of Famer, other things are more important for the show.

Speaking on his Phenomenally Retro podcast, Styles admitted that the win/loss record is not something that concerns him. The former WWE Champion emphasised that pro wrestling is a show and entertainment, not a legitimate combat sport, and the TV show itself is more important.
“I could care less about wins and losses. They don’t mean anything. This is a show. This is pure entertainment. This isn’t the UFC. That’s the biggest difference, and the older I got, my job wasn’t to be the heavyweight champion of the world. Some people want that, some people need that. I don’t. I didn’t. So my job was to make sure I got the younger talent over as well as I could. And if they were older, who cares? I had a job to do. This is entertainment. You’re not going to the pay window and getting paid more for the win. It’s not the same. You’re watching a TV show.”
Styles brought his in-ring career to an end at the Royal Rumble after losing to Guther. The Phenomenal One put his career on the line against The Ring General in Saudi Arabia, and lost the match after being put to sleep. After saying goodbye to the fans in his home state of Georgia, Styles was surprised by The Undertaker, who informed his old rival that he would be going into the Hall of Fame as part of the 2026 class.
