Who Is John Cena's Final Opponent?

John Cena’s final opponent was determined on the December 5 edition of WWE SmackDown.

In the main event of the show, Gunther defeated LA Knight to earn the right to face Cena in his retirement match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13, which will take place in Washington D.C.

The match saw Gunther win via submission after locking in the sleeper hold on Knight. After the match, Gunther put up a promo where he promised that Cena would give up in his final match. As a result of the victory, Gunther will be a part of 2 retirement matches in 2025, as he faced Goldberg in the Hall of Famer’s final bout back in July.

Gunther defeated Je’Von Evans in the opening round, followed by Carmelo Hayes, Solo Siko and finally Knight to win The Last Time is Now Tournament.

Final Opponent Now Determined For John Cena’s Last Match

Cena first announced at Money in the Bank 2024 that 2025 would be his final year as an active Superstar, noting that he would have a year-long farewell tour. Beginning at the Raw on Netflix premiere in January, Cena has had an eventful year that saw him make it to the final 2 of the Royal Rumble, turn heel at Elimination Chamber, win a record-breaking 17th WWE Championship at WrestleMania, turn face again at SummerSlam, and win the Intercontinental Championship towards the end of the run.

The December 13 Saturday Night’s Main Event special will also see the stars of NXT face off against some of the top stars on the main roster as part of a series of exhibition matches.
