The upcoming John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar rematch is expected to take place at a WWE Premium Live Event soon, which is also coincidentally expected to go head-to-head with AEW.
Lesnar made his controversial return at SummerSlam night 2 on August 3, crashing Cena’s goodbye to the fans following the main event and laying out the 17-time World Champion with an F5 to stand tall.
While Cena and WWE have spoken about the shock return, Lesnar has yet to appear on TV at the time of writing. However, it is expected that sooner rather than later the 2 veterans will once again cross paths. Although some expected the match between the 2 former WWE Champions to take place at the next PLE, Clash in Paris on August 31, Cena will instead take on Logan Paul in what could be his final match in Europe. According to a new report, the reason for delaying the big match could be due to the competition.
On August 11, news broke that WWE are set to announce another major show on September 20, which is also the same date as AEW All Out. Speaking about the developments on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer stated that Cena vs. Lesnar is set to headline the as-yet-untitled show:
“The main event for the show is Brock Lesnar and John Cena, so it’s a big one. Which is why Brock’s not in Paris, is because of this. They wanted him for this show, not for the Paris show, and that’s why Logan Paul got the gig,” Meltzer said.
What Happened The Last Time Brock Lesnar Faced John Cena?
Lesnar and Cena last went one-on-one back in 2014. Their SummerSlam match played out in shocking fashion as Lesnar squashed Cena to win the WWE Championship. Their next match at Night of Champions ended in DQ, with Cena picking up the victory but not the title as Seth Rollins interfered in the main event.
