Tony Khan provided the fans with an AEW update on the latest episode of Dynamite.
On the September 24 broadcast, Khan appeared via video backstage made the announcement that Women’s Tag Team Championships would be on the way soon, much to the delight of the fans in attendance. Following the address Renee Paquette revealed the design of the new titles at ringside:
Khan did not reveal when the new championships would be introduced or how the inaugural champions would be crowned, but did put over the division and how it has grown in recent times. Currently, the AEW women’s wrestlers can contest over the AEW Women’s and TBS Championships, which are held by Kris Statlander and Mercedes Mone, respectively. The topic has been brought up in the past on media calls, with Khan being very receptive to the idea. It has also been speculated that the titles would be on the way soon, given that a lot of womens tag team matches have been taking place on TV over the past few months.
When the new championships are officially introduced, AEW will join WWE and TNA in having Women’s Tag Titles.

The announcement follows previous updates from Khan that included the now annual Forbidden Door and All In shows, along with the introduction of the TBS and Continental Championships. Assuming that the Unified Championships now includes the Continental and International Championships, there are now 8 titles to be contested for in All Elite Wrestling.
