The representation for Vince McMahon has claimed that a prior federal investigation into the former WWE Chairman has been dropped.

Federal prosecutors in Manhattan, New York have been investigating McMahon for charges related to the Janel Grant lawsuit that was filed in January 2024 which accuses McMahon of sexual assault and trafficking while also naming John Laurinaitis and WWE as defendants in the case. In June of that year, the lawsuit was placed in a 6 month order of stay by the Department of Justice to allow for the criminal investigation to begin. The lawsuit resumed in December 2024 and remains ongoing.

On Friday, a US Court of Appeals upheld a ruling that McMahon’s lawyer was wrong to withhold 208 pages of documents related to the ongoing case, rejecting the claim of attorney-client privilege. Unless an appeal is submitted to the Supreme Court, McMahon’s team will have to turn over these documents. However, a representative for McMahon has dismissed the ruling, adding that the investigation has been dropped and no charges will be filed.

McMahon’s lawyer Robert W. Allen issued the following statement to the New York Post on the matter:

“This is simply the result of an appeal of a procedural matter that was argued five months ago,” Allen said. “We have been in consistent communication with the government since that time and understand, with no ambiguity, that the investigation has definitively concluded and will not result in charges.”

The criminal probe in question looked into whether McMahon tried to cover up multiple allegations of sexual misconduct. The article from The Post adds that the ruling does not mention sex trafficking.

Janel Grant vs. Vince McMahon Lawsuit Continues

While the federal investigation against McMahon has concluded according to his attorney and the former WWE Chairman has also settled SEC charges against him for not declaring payments used as hush money which affected public WWE accounts, the case against Janel Grant continues. The most recent development saw Janel Grant file an updated complaint.
