Vince McMahon Lawsuit Paused Due To Request From US Justice Department

Vince McMahon

A major update has been provided in the Vince McMahon lawsuit.

Back in January 2024, Vince McMahon was accused of sexual misconduct as sex trafficking by former WWE employee Janel Grant. The disturbing lawsuit also explicitly named former Head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis as a defendant along with WWE.

In May, McMahon, WWE and Laurinaitis all filed for arbitration in the lawsuit, meaning that they requested for the lawsuit to be settled behind closed doors as opposed to in a courtroom. McMahon continues to deny the abhorrent allegations and Laurinaitis has since sided with McMahon after previously claiming that he was also a victim of McMahon. In a new update on May 30th, Grant’s attorney Ann Callis issued the following statement to Bloomberg, meaning that the prosecution has delayed their case while the US Justice Department conducts its own investigation:

“Ms. Grant has consented to a request by the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York to stay her case against Mr. McMahon, WWE and Mr. Laurinaitis, pursuant to a pending non-public investigation. We will cooperate with all appropriate next steps.”

No response has been published by McMahon or his attorney at the time of writing.

Vince McMahon Allegations Led To Resignation

When the disturbing allegations were made public, McMahon remained as executive chairman and seemingly showed no signs of leaving despite the contents of the lawsuit. However, the day before the Royal Rumble, major sponsor Slim Jim stated that they had paused their partnership with WWE in light of the allegations. Following pressure from the sponsor and the company fearing that more corporate partners would follow, Vince McMahon officially resigned from his positions in WWE and TKO Holdings while still denying the allegations.
