Some fans were left surprised when all was said and done between Becky Lynch and AJ Lee on the latest episode of WWE Raw.
Not advertised ahead of time, Lee was seen arriving at the venue with her husband CM Punk during the February 9 broadcast. Shortly afterwards, Lynch stormed to the ring and spoke about Lee being in the building, leading to a war of words between the two.
When all was said and done, it was agreed that Lynch would put her Women’s Intercontinental Championship on the line against Lee at Elimination Chamber on February 28, which will take place in Lee’s hometown of Chicago. However, many thought that the match would not take place so soon, as it looked set to be one of the matches scheduled for WrestleMania 42 weekend.
Addressing the plans on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported that Lynch and Lee are still expected to face off at WrestleMania as well as at Elimination Chamber:
“I was expecting this match at Mania, but I was told there’s a reason it’s here and the story goes until Mania. I go like, ‘Oh I thought this was going to be at Mania.’ And it’s like, ‘Don’t worry, it all plays out to get there.’ Whatever this plan is today probably won’t be changed. This week, maybe next week, who knows?”
Becky Lynch And AJ Lee To Face Off One On One
After 10 years away from the ring, Lee made her return to action at Wrestlepalooza as she teamed with Punk to defeat Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins. Later that year, Lee and Lynch crossed paths in the Women’s WarGames match at Survivor Series, with Lee’s team picking up the victory.
The last time that Lee competed in a singles match was in March 2015, which saw her lose to Nikki Bella on an episode of Raw.
