Triple H and Paul Heyman have each commented on the possibility that Brock Lesnar has now retired from professional wrestling.
Kicking off night 2 of WrestleMania 42, Lesnar lost to Oba Femi in just under 5 minutes. Following the bout, the former World Champion took off his gloves and boots in the ring and got emotional. As Paul Heyman joined Lesnar, both men embraced as the crowd chanted, “Thank you, Lesnar.” With commentary selling that Lesnar was done with WWE, Lesnar made his way up the ramp and waved to the fans.
Speaking with SportsCenter following WrestleMania, Triple H described the result as a changing of the guard, noting that it appears that Lesnar’s in-ring career is over:
“Well it certainly seemed that way. Brock is not a walk back through the curtain and have a long conversation guy. Brock is a walk back through the curtain, very angry, go to his bus and that is the end of it. So there was not a discussion had after. I will say this, probably the most famous combat sport athlete of our generation, one of a kind, nobody like Brock Lesnar. But the one thing that nobody gives him credit for is the intelligence of a fighter. They see Brock as this hulking brute, The Beast, they see him as all that. There comes a point in time when somebody comes along that’s bigger and badder and just pushes you to a place that you can’t come back from. The smart ones know when that happens and they call it a day. I don’t think that was a planned thing. I think Brock went to the ring. He walked into a wall called Oba Femi. Brock walked up to the next big thing, ran into a brick wall, and the intelligence in him said, ‘maybe I should call it a day.’ He took his boots off and he put his gloves down and he walked away. That is not a statement of Brock being afraid of it. That is an intelligent man meeting something that cannot be stopped. It is much of a statement of Oba Femi as it is Brock Lesnar. You witnessed the changing of the guard as the apex of our business.”
Paul Heyman Denies Brock Lesnar Retirement Claims
Although the fans and Triple H are of the belief that Lesnar has competed in his final match, the man who knows Lesnar better than almost anyone, Paul Heyman, has a different view on the subject.
While speaking with TMZ, Heyman claimed that Lesnar will still be on top for over a decade:
“What’s my vision? Another 15 years of dominance by Brock Lesnar. Why are you pushing this whole retirement thing?”
When the person who asked Heyman the question brought up the rumours, the Hall of Famer laughed them off as internet speculation, and reiterated his previous point:
“You actually read what is posted online and take it seriously? This is part of the great political divide in this country, isn’t it? People actually take seriously irrelevant opinions. There’s only one relevant opinion, and it’s mine. Mine is that Brock Lesnar dominates the next 15 years.”
Update: Paul Heyman has since clarified that the TMZ interview took place before WrestleMania.
Prior to WrestleMania, it was reported that Lesnar was likely to have his final match at SummerSlam 2026, which will be in his home state of Minnesota. The rumoured opponent for Lesnar is Gunther, who has been the final opponent for Goldberg, John Cena and AJ Styles.
