Trick Williams Wins TNA World Championship

Trick Williams is the new TNA World Champion and has made history in the process.

Competing in the main event of NXT Battleground, Williams defeated Joe Hendry to win the title for the first time in his career and also became the first contracted WWE star to win the top championship in TNA.

The closing moments of the match saw Williams attempt to use the World Championship before being stopped by the referee. As the official was distracted, Williams hit a facebuster onto Hendry onto the gold, followed by a Trick Shot to pick up the victory and become the new champion. Williams celebrated after the match as TNA President Carlos Silva looked on in disappointment.

Although the talent exchange between WWE and TNA has been in effect for over a year with multiple stars challenging the opposing brand’s champions, this is the first time that a title has changed hands between the two companies.

The victory brings Hendry’s reign to an end at 126 days. Hendry won the title for the first time in his career at TNA Genesis at the start of the year.

Along with his current reign as TNA World Champion, Williams is also a former North American Champion and 2-time NXT Champion.
