Tournament Announced To Determine John Cena's Final WWE Opponent

WWE has officially announced how John Cena’s final opponent will be determined.

A video package aired during the November 1 Saturday Night’s Main Event special, which was narrated by the 17-time World Champion. Cena stated that he wanted to face someone who is willing to seize the opportunity like he did back in 2002, and announced that a tournament would begin on November 10 to decide his last opponent.

Cena stated that the 16-man field would be chosen at random, with stars from Raw, SmackDown, NXT and “maybe some that don’t work here.” The line-up will feature stars who Cena has a history with, along with those who have never been in the ring with the Hollywood star.

Whoever wins the tournament will face Cena at the December 13 Saturday Night’s Main Event special in Washington D.C, where the former WWE Champion will bring his legendary career to an end.

Although no participants have been announced at the time of writing, it has been previously reported that former World Heavyweight Champion Gunther is currently the favourite to face Cena in his final match. If this is the case, Gunther would be the final opponent for Cena and Goldberg, as the WWE Hall of Famer also retired earlier in the year.

It has also been rumoured that the other match left on the Cena retirement tour, which is scheduled to take place at Survivor Series, will see the WWE legend challenge Dominik Mysterio for the Intercontinental Championship.
