A new report has killed the rumour that Tony Khan may have had some involvement in one of the biggest events on the NJPW calendar following the latest result.
August 17 will see the final of the G1 Climax 35 tournament take place, with AEW star Konosuke Takeshita set to take on EVIL in the conclusion of the round-robin contest. With EVIL not being the most popular wrestler among fans, especially international ones, many have taken issue with the way that the tournament has been booked. Following the conclusion of the semifinals, there was a theory going around online that AEW played a part in EVIL making it to the final. However, according to the latest update, the truth is in fact the opposite.
As reported by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, company sources noted that when it comes to EVIL, Khan “had never particularly been a fan of his work”, which is why the former IWGP Heavyweight Champion has never been booked for AEW TV, or even Ring of Honor. It was also noted that Khan does not have any influence in how the G1 is booked, despite what some fans may think.
