Tony Khan Addresses WWE Counter-Programming AEW

Tony Khan has given his thoughts on WWE hosting major events the same day as AEW pay-per-views.

Fans have noted that WWE is putting on its big shows from the main roster and NXT on the same day as AEW events. Along with NXT Battleground taking place on the same day as Double or Nothing, the July 12th Saturday Night’s Main Event will also take place on the same night as All In, which was announced months in advance.

Speaking at the Double or Nothing post-show press conference, Khan was asked about other companies scheduling their own shows around the major AEW events:

“It’s pretty consistent. I’d say it’s the most consistent event head-to-head scheduling I’ve seen since Jim Crockett Promotions saw a lot of scheduling that went that way. And I can tell you this will go a lot differently than that did.”

Jim Crockett Promotions was eventually bought out by Turner Broadcasting and became WCW, also due to WWE counter-programming the shows.

Tony Khan Interested In Introducing New Championships

Six years on from its PPV debut, All Elite Wrestling has undergone a number of expansions with 2 weekly TV shows, a bigger roster and more championships compared to its 2019 beginnings. In an interview ahead of the show, Tony Khan spoke about the possibility of introducing another championship into the mix.
