TNA Star Joe Hendry Discusses Adapting To The Six-Sided Ring

TNA star Joe Hendry has addressed the challenges of working in a six-sided ring following his recent appearance in AAA.

TNA star Joe Hendry has addressed having to adapt to a six-sided ring as part of his recent international appearance.

While Hendry has predominantly competed in a 4-sided ring throughout his in-ring career, the Scottish star recently made an appearance in Mexico as part of AAA’s TripleMania Regia on June 15th. As AAA fans are aware, the promotion uses the 6-sided ring for their matches.

With a hexagonal ring canvas, more turnbuckles and different ropes, the six-sided ring is not the most traditional in wrestling and is presented with its own challenges. While speaking with You Know I’m RightHendry spoke about how he made sure he could hit his spots in the unique ring, albeit on quite short notice:

“Yeah, it’s different. So it said there’s a greater distance between the ropes, and also the ropes are much tighter. So while I should have done it earlier in the day, and I don’t really know why I didn’t. I must have been distracted thinking about it. I knew I was going to do a hurricanrana, so I was like, right, well, I got to get that done. So I was thinking about that. But then I thought to myself, actually, these ropes are super tight, and also there’s a greater distance. It’s a different canvas. So while the other guys are making their entrance, I ran the ropes a couple times just to make sure I could get the correct number of steps. I really try and clear the ring in like three steps if I can, which is a hard thing to do. But it was just a slightly different size, so I just had to get used to it.”

Hendry, El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. and El Mesias all unsuccessfully challenged Moose for the X Division Championship at TripleMania.

As longtime TNA fans are aware, the six-sided ring was a staple of the promotion and one of its unique selling points in the early days. However, the ring was retired in 2010 in favour of a more traditional square ring, which generated a considerable amount of fan backlash afterwards.

What’s Next For Joe Hendry In TNA?

At NXT Battleground, Hendry lost the World Championship to Trick Williams, who was the first contracted WWE star to hold the top prize in the company. On June 20th, TNA announced that Hendry would get his rematch against Williams at Slammiversary, which will take place on July 20th.
