Sting has let the fans know when he intends to call time on his legendary in-ring career.
As seen on the October 18th episode of Dynamite, Sting has announced that he will have his final match at AEW Revolution 2024.
Introduced by Tony Schiavone, Sting reflected on his career with the live crowd in Houston. Getting down to business, Sting discussed his retirement and how the first retirement in 2015 did not sit right.
Stating that his first match in AEW was in 2021 at Revolution, Sting then stated that 3 years on from that match will be his final time and that it really will be his last match.
A Brief Look At The Iconic Career Of Sting
Making his debut in 1985, Sting would become known to the wider wrestling world in WCW. First adopting the surfer persona, The Icon would debut the Crow inspired persona that he would become best known for in 1996, becoming one of the top babyfaces in WCW. Staying with the promotion until the doors were closed in 2001, Sting captured the WCW Championship 6 times.
Not choosing to go to WWE after WCW closed, Sting debuted in TNA in 2003 and remained with the promotion for 11 years. Much like WCW, Sting was one of the key wrestlers in elevating the promotion and captured the top championship 4 times.
In 2014, the unthinkable happened as Sting finally arrived in WWE. Debuting a Survivor Series, The Icon targeted Triple H and was responsible for The Authority being removed from power. Sting would have 2 matches in WWE, losing to Triple H at WrestleMania 31 and losing to Seth Rollins at Night of Champions 2015. An accident in the match looked to have ended Sting’s in-ring career as he announced his retirement when inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2016.
At AEW Winter Is Coming 2020, Sting made his shocking debut for All Elite Wrestling, coming to the aid of Darby Allin, who Sting has aligned himself with ever since.
