Sheamus Says "Circumstances Came Up" Regarding Upcoming WWE Departure

Sheamus has publicly commented on the WWE situation that reportedly led to him deciding he would be leaving the promotion.

In early July, reports surfaced claiming that the former World Champion would be leaving the company when his contract expires. With Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods having left WWE earlier in the year, Sheamus is the latest veteran set to make his exit.

Speaking with Adam Glyn of the Adam’s Apple show, Sheamus confirmed that “some circumstances came up”, but he was unable to elaborate further. The Celtic Warrior then reflected on being in the company for 19 years and now he is able to see his family more:

“Some circumstances came up. I can’t really talk about it, obviously. But, 19 years is a long time, a good crack. I left Ireland in 07, so I haven’t really had the luxury to go home and see my family and see my friends. The last couple weeks now I’ve had a chance to kind of restructure that and get back and catch up on birthdays and missed opportunities. I got a nephew and niece back home, Theo and Sophia. Love the kids and I get to see them more now. They’re awesome. Six and four.”

Sheamus Addresses Missed WWE Accolade

Although Sheamus famously won just about every accolade there was to achieve in WWE, the Intercontinental Championship was one title that constantly alluded him. When asked about this in the interview, the former World Champion said that there were no regrets:

“I’ve had an amazing career, fella. No regrets. I mean it. No regrets.”

Although news broke in July that Sheamus was set to leave the promotion when his contract expires, he won’t be a free agent for a few more months. A follow-up report on the Irish star’s status stated that he would not be out of contract until October 2026.
