Sheamus has given his thoughts on R-Truth’s WWE departure, which left many fans stunned when it was announced.
On June 1st, R-Truth made the announcement that he had been released from WWE, which was later clarified as his contract would not be renewed when it expired. With many fans and wrestlers surprised by the news, well wishes and anger towards WWE flooded social media in what was a response unlike no other to a departure.
On Raw and NXT the following week, chants of “We want Truth” could be heard in the arena as fans continued to let their opinions be known on the news. While appearing on The Pat McAfee Show, Sheamus stated that the releases can come out of nowhere and spoke very highly about Truth and the departure:
“Sometimes people don’t know. Look, from a perspective of what we do, entertainment, it’s about entertaining the fans. I’m sure in the NFL, fans see the player in interviews and everything and they see what he does in the field. But from our perspective, what we do, the fans get to know who that person is and they get to fall in love with the character and the personality. Truth, for example, he’s one of the most beloved because he’s one of the most entertaining. I had my first dark match against him. I joined in 07, 08, and R-Truth had just come back. He was with the company, he went to TNA, he came back again. So we had a dark match together on the road, and from then we bonded. He’s that fella walking in the dressing room and it’s just a laugh. He’s got a contagious laugh that would just light up the room. But there’s no way of knowing, man. You just got to go out there and do what you can. Sometimes you can’t tell when that time is.”
Sheamus Predicts R-Truth Will Return
As has been seen many times throughout WWE history, stars who have been released made their return to the company and often found much more success than the first time around, such as Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre. Later in the interview, The Celtic Warrior stated that a Truth return is very possible, along with Carlito, who also announced that he would be departing the company soon:
“It’s not the end, so many guys and girls come back. Sometimes it’s a bit of a break, there’s no way Truth is not going to come back at some stage. I’m sure you’ll see him again. Same with Carlito. He was gone for a while and he came back. If you want to find your way back, you’ll find your way back. It’s not the end for anybody.”
