Seth Rollins continues to make history.
The Visionary defeated AJ Styles in the opening match of the Night of Champions Premium Live Event to win the reintroduced championship.
Rollins and Styles earned the right to advance to the PLE by winning the initial rounds of their brand’s respective tournaments. Former champions including Rey Mysterio, Edge, Bobby Lashley and Finn Balor are some of the names that each man had defeated to reach the finals.
The conclusion of the match would see Rollins counter The Phenomenal Forearm into a Superkick. Rollins then hit a Pedigree and a Stomp to win the match and the championship.
After the match, Triple H would come to the Ring to celebrate with Seth Rollins. In a bit of connective history, Triple H was the first ever World Heavyweight Champion in WWE, being gifted the title by then Raw General Manager Eric Bischoff back in 2002.
The victory adds to Rollins’ impressive WWE record. The former Shield member was also the first ever NXT Champion, along with previously holding the WWE and Universal Championships. the new World Heavyweight Champion will represent the Raw brand exclusively, with Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns being the champion for SmackDown.
