The injury woes continue for WWE.
The opening match of the July 28th episode of SmackDown saw LWO members Santos Escobar and Rey Mysterio compete, with the winner going on to challenge for Austin Theory’s United States Championship.
The two competitors shook hands out of respect to open the match, which heated up when a slap exchange took place.
The spot where the injury seemed to occur was just before the commercial break, where Escobar hit a suicide dive onto Mysterio. When SmackDown came back from commercial, the WWE Hall of Famer was examined by medical staff.
Referee Jessica Carr informed the ring announcer that Mysterio was unable to compete, meaning that Escobar won the match via forfeit.
It should be noted that in a follow up report via Fightful Select, Escobar was scheduled to win the match clean against the former WWE Champion.
The injury continues the unfortunate week of injuries for WWE, with both Kevin Owens and Liv Morgan being written off TV with legitimate injuries on the July 24th edition of WWE Raw.
Features of Wrestling would like to wish Rey Mysterio a full and speedy recovery.
