Sami Zayn Wins Intercontinental Championship At WrestleMania; Brings Record-Breaking Reign To An End

Sami Zayn has done it!

Sami Zayn has done what so many could not, defeat Gunther.

The ultimate underdog was once again victorious at WrestleMania, pinning Gunther in the penultimate match of WrestleMania Saturday to bring The Ring Genral’s record-breaking 666-day reign as champion to an end.

Very much playing the underdog throughout the match, Zayn met up with his family, Chad Gable and Kevin Owens before making his entrance. Despite a flurry of offence at the start, all hopes of victory faded fast as Gunther hit Zayn with a barrage of his signature strikes. As Zayn’s wife looked on, Gunther continually mocked Zayn for daring to step in the ring with him. Zayn looked very much out of it as he was hit with so many Powerbombs and splashes that Michael Cole begged the referee to stop the match as it seemed as if Zayn was unable to continue.

However, as all hope looked to be gone, Zayn made his comeback and got to his feet as Philadelphia came alive. Much like the Rocky movies, Zayn refused to stay down and launched his comeback. With a brainbuster in the corner and 2 Helluva kicks, Zayn became a 4-time Intercontinental Champion.

Sami Zayn Realises His Dream

With Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, Chad Gable and Jey Uso being among the top stars who have failed to bring the record-breaking reign of Gunther to an end, there was a point where it appeared that the leader of Imperium was unbeatable and would reign for a lot longer. However, much like the previous year, Zayn was able to bring a historic title reign to an end.
