Sami Zayn Reflects On First WWE Championship Win

Sami Zayn Reflects On First WWE Championship Win

New WWE Champion Sami Zayn has commented on his title win at Night of Champions.

The main event of the June 28 Premium Live Event in Saudi Arabia saw Zayn compete in a triple-threat match against Cody Rhodes and Gunther with the title on the line. In one of the more shocking results of the year, Zayn pinned Rhodes to capture the title to the delight of fans. Heading into the match, neither the betting odds nor fans expected Zayn to be the one to have his hand raised when all was said and done.

Although Zayn has been on the main roster for over a decade, it appeared that his time to win the World Title had passed. Some predicted that 2023 could have been Zayn’s time, but the company kept on the same path to eventually have Cody Rhodes dethrone Roman Reigns. There appeared to be a time when Zayn could have joined that list of those who should have won the title but never did, but Zayn has now joined that elite list.

“The Weight Of The World Is Off My Shoulders”: Sami Zayn On WWE Championship Win

Appearing on The Raw Recap to give his first interview since winning the championship, Zayn admitted that winning the title was something that he felt the pressure over. However, now that he is the champion, the weight has been lifted:

“I’m still processing it, believe it or not. It’s kind of hard to fully take in. But, I guess if I had to answer in one word, it feels great. It really does. It feels like the weight of the world is off my shoulders. I think anyone who’s paid attention has seen that I kind of drove myself to the edge of sanity there for a little while just by putting so much pressure on myself to win this thing, and it’s here, and I feel like I can just breathe. It feels great.”

Zayn is next scheduled to appear on the July 3 SmackDown, which has been pre-taped ahead of time. On the show, Zayn’s first challenger was determined.
