Roxanne Perez Recognised As WWE Women's Tag Team Champion Alongside Raquel Rodriguez

Roxanne Perez has won her first WWE championship on the main roster, albeit via a technicality.

During the June 30 episode of WWE Raw, new Tag Team Champions Finn Balor and JD McDonagh approached Raw and SmackDown General Managers Adam Pearce and Nick Aldis about the situation with the women’s titles. After Balor made the suggestion that Perez should be named the champion due to her alliance with Rodriguez, the GMs allowed it.

Rodriguez previously held the championships with Liv Morgan, but has recently held both titles solo after Morgan suffered a serious shoulder injury that required surgery. WWE has previously named replacement partners when injuries have occurred. When Sonya Deville suffered an injury, Piper Niven was named as Chelsea Green’s new partner. Additionally, Naomi was named as Bianca Belair’s tag team partner when Jade Cargill was sidelined with injury.

Perez is a former 2-time NXT Women’s Champion and also previously held the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships with Cora Jade.

Roxanne Perez And Raquel Rodriguez Have First WWE Title Defence At Evolution

Although Perez is now recognised as one half of the Women’s Tag Team Champions, she and Rodriguez will have to prove themselves to be worthy of holding the gold. Shortly after the GMs confirmed that Perez would partner with Rodriguez, they announced that the champions would be defending the titles against a team from Raw, a team from SmackDown and a team from NXT at Evolution on July 13.
