Ronda Rousey has made a very concerning accusation against WWE Superstar Drew Gulak.
Following her exit from WWE in August 2023, Rousey has made it clear that she has no intentions of returning to the company anytime soon. Her new autobiography Our Fight documents her time in WWE and holds little back when discussing her thoughts on Vince McMahon, John Laurinaitis and Bruce Prichard.
On top of individuals being called out for their unprofessional behaviour and alleged inappropriate conduct, Rousey blasted WWE for its treatment of women over the years and described the company as having a “casting couch culture.” Speaking in an interview to promote the book, Rousey has made a new revelation about her own experiences in the company that was not documented in the autobiography.
While speaking with NewsNation, the former Women’s Champion detailed a time when she was backstage and a man grabbed her sweatpants, who Rousey later identified as Drew Gulak:
“I was standing there and this guy I was barely an acquaintance with grabs the string of my sweatpants as I’m walking by. Nobody else reacts as if this is abnormal, and he’s going down the hall and I’m like ‘what the f*ck was that? Why are you grabbing the string of my sweatpants? If my husband was standing there next to me, would you feel comfortable walking up to me and grabbing the string of my sweatpants?’ Nobody around me acted like this was abnormal. All the guys around me were like, this is part of the day. If this guy was coming up to me and doing this kind of stuff to me when there are other people around, what’s happening to these other girls when I’m not in the hallway? That really put me on edge to not only is this behaviour prevalent but it is so prevalent that people don’t even realise it’s a problem anymore.”
Continuing, Rousey confronted Gulak over the incident:
“I was like, if I ever hear you putting your hands on any other woman like this or doing anything to me like this ever again…we’re going to have a problem. And he was like ‘No, no, no, I’m glad you said something to me’ and he really backpedaled. But it put a sour taste in my mouth about the culture there and what’s considered acceptable and how to touch and treat the women in the hallways.”
Drew Gulak is currently a member of the NXT roster and frequently competes alongside the No Quarter Catch Crew.
The statement from Rousey is the latest in highlighting the alleged toxic culture in WWE that came to light following the Vince McMahon allegations.
[Update]
On social media, Gulak would issue a response to the allegation:
Backstage at a WWE event in 2022, I saw Ronda talking with a group in the hallway. I stopped to say hi and shake all their hands, and in an attempt to shake her hand, I accidentally touched her drawstring. Complete accident, and one that I had apologized to her for the mishap.
Ronda Rousey Won’t Return To WWE
Rousey continues to hold nothing back when describing her time in WWE. In a separate interview, Ronda Rousey described WWE as a “sh*t show” and blasted the company for how she was handled creatively.
