Roman Reigns is once again a top champion in WWE after defeating CM Punk in the main event of WrestleMania 42.
The finish of the match saw both men exhausted after hitting each other with everything in their arsenal, while also attempting to get the win with each other’s moves. In the end, Reigns hit a spear into Punk to get the pinfall win and round out the weekend of action in Las Vegas.
This was the first time that Reigns had challenged for a World Championship since his 1,316-day reign came to an end 2years prior at WrestleMania 40, which saw Reigns lose the title to Cody Rhodes.
This was the third title change of the night, as Trick Williams won the US Championship and Rhea Ripley won the WWE Women’s Championship earlier in the show.
Roman Reigns Turns Royal Rumble Victory Into Success At WrestleMania 42
Reigns previously challenged for the WWE Championship in the main event of WrestleMania 31 after winning the Royal Rumble in 2015. Facing Brock Lesnar, the match is best known for Seth Rollins storming to the ring and cashing in his Money in the Bank contract. Dubbed the heist of the century, Rollins walked out as champion after pinning Roman Reigns.
11 years later, Reigns won one of the top prizes in WWE after being the last man standing at the 2026 Royal Rumble.
