Roman Reigns has given his side of the argument regarding his WWE schedule that has limited dates and matches.
The World Champion has competed in total of 14 matches from the start of 2025 to present day. Of those matches, 13 have been on major shows and just one has been on free TV. The TV match saw Reigns defend his World Heavyweight Championship against Petna at a taping in Mexico.
The OTC has remained on a limited schedule since 2022, and he has also been one of the top champions during this time. Although Reigns remains the biggest star in the company, some are critical of his lighter schedule.
Speaking with Shannon Sharpe on the Club Shay Shay podcast, Reigns noted that while some have issues with his current workload, he was working a lot more during the earlier stage of his career:
“Every single day you’re putting in work, every live event. There are 100s. Now with my schedule, people will pick on it, but they don’t remember from 2012 to 2018 when I was doing 150, 200 shows a year, every single year, just working my a** off,” said Reigns. “But staying in the lab, continually getting the reps, conquering my 10,000 hours. Putting my time in, that’s where I learn how to do everything. And we’re trying to get that back. I think we’re trying to run more live events and they are good.”
Roman Reigns Does Not Want To Jeopardise Plans With Live Event Risks
Continuing, Reigns recognised that he is a major ratings draw for WWE TV. With this in mind, he does not want to risk plans or be put on the sidelines by suffering an injury at a house show. However, the World Champion did recognise the importance of the house shows for up-and-coming talent to get their reps in:
“But we’re just at a business model where TV rights are TV rights. And there’s just so much money on the line that we got to that point where it’s just like, it doesn’t make sense for me to do live events anymore. What if I got hurt? There’s so much money that’s riding on Mondays and Fridays and our PLEs now that I can’t just go out there and wrestle for 4,000, 5,000 only, just for those eyes only. Now, I got to conserve it. But those are the reps that are critical. To have a fresh crowd every single night, and you can run the same thing.”
