Rhea Ripley and IYO SKY kicked off the new year strong as they captured the Women’s Tag Team Championships on WWE Raw.
Competing in the opening match of the January 5 broadcast, which was also the first Raw of the year, Ripley and SKY defeated The Kabuki Warriors of Asuka and Kairi Sane to win the titles for the first time as a duo. The finish of the match saw Ripley hit the Riptide onto Asuka, with SKY following up with the Over the Moonsault. Ripley scored the winning pin for the team.
Triple H posed with the new champions after the match, and posted the photo to social media:
The victory brings to an end The Kabuki Warriors’ reign at 56 days. This was also the first of 2 title changes to take place on the show, as Becky Lynch defeated Maxxine Dupri later in the night to become a two-time holder of the Women’s Intercontinental Championship, and the first woman to hold the title twice.
Have Rhea Ripley And IYO SKY Won Women’s Tag Team Championships Before?
Although this is the first time that Ripley and SKY have held the championships as a duo, they have both previously held the titles with different partners. Ripley previously reigned with the Women’s Tag Titles alongside Nikki Cross, who competed under the name Nikki A.S.H. at that point, while SKY has previously held the titles twice alongside Dakota Kai while in Damage CTRL.
