The identity of Randy Orton’s mysterious caller was finally revealed on the latest episode of WWE SmackDown.
In the opening segment of the April 3 broadcast, Orton appeared live in his hometown of St. Louis, MI, but was quickly interrupted by Cody Rhodes. As Rhodes and Orton brawled, announcer Pat McAfee made his surprise return and low blowed The American Nightmare. McAfee then revealed it was him that Orton had speaking on the phone with, adding that his motivation was to help save the business from the bad shape that it is in.
Following the attack, McAfee took to social media, stating that if Orton does not beat Rhodes at WrestleMania to win the WWE Championship, then he will never be seen or heard of on wrestling TV ever again:
“How about that marks?” he asked. “Never back on any wrestling television if Randy Orton loses at WrestleMania. I don’t know how long the business will last if that happens, but I will never come back. I am here on a mission to motivate a 6-foot-5, 270-, 280-pound monster to lead the WWE. My friend, the Legend Killer, the GOAT, Randy Orton. Tickets available now. Most important match in the history of this business happens in Las Vegas Nevada. Come watch it live.”
Over the past few weeks, Orton had been seen talking to someone backstage on the phone. Fan theories behind the mystery person’s identity included his Hall of Fame father, Bob Orton, and Shane McMahon given that Stephanie McMahon made her return on the last episode of Raw.
Cody Rhodes Responds To Randy Orton’s Caller Being Revealed To Be Pat McAfee
Later in the show, Rhodes made his return to the ring and mocked McAfee being the big reveal to Orton, stating that he compared it to Disco Inferno being revealed as the NWo’s third man:
“We got all dressed up in St. Louis tonight to find out who Randy Orton was talking to on the phone,” Rhodes said. “And color me surprised, it was Pat McAfee. That’s like if Scott Hall and Kevin Nash talked about the third man in the NWO, and instead of Hulk Hogan, it was Disco Inferno.”
