R-Truth has looked back on his surprising WWE release back in 2025 and the circumstances that led to his eventual return.
Back in June 2025, Truth put out a post on social media letting the fans know that he would be departing the company as his contract was not going to be renewed when it expired. One of the most popular stars among fans and those in the promotion, there was mass outcry over the decision to let Truth go. On top of a surge of support on social media, fans were heard chanting “We want Truth” at live events.
Fast forward to Money in the Bank 2025 and Truth made his shocking return by interfering in the main event, costing John Cena a victory in the process. Shortly afterwards, it was confirmed that Truth had been brought back to the company, and Triple H noted in the post-show press conference that it was “all part of the show.”
Truth’s release is among the topics set to be covered in the Netflix docuseries WWE: Unreal season 2, which is set to premiere on January 20. In a recent interview, Truth spoke about his departure and return.
“It’s Very Emotional For Me”: R-Truth On WWE Release And Return
Speaking with Stephen A. Smith, the former United States Champion spoke candidly about what happened in 2025, and how it is set to be documented on WWE Unreal:
“My part (in WWE: Unreal season two) is about when I got released. I haven’t even seen it yet because it’s very emotional for me. It’s when I got released and got so much overwhelming amount of support from the people, the fans — I call them family now — that it’s just unreal…
It was numb. Sometimes we lose and forget who we are. There’s people that’s my age and older — their time ain’t up. I think father time — each individual has its own time, when it’s time, and we have time to make something happen within that time so I think everything that happened happened at the right time for me, because as we saw, I’m more popular and valuable than I’ve ever been in my life and my career. Over hundreds of millions of people showed and told me that.”
