Returning to the Electric Ballroom in Camden, the July 25 PROGRESS Scorchio show marks a new chapter for the UK promotion.
Back in April, Nikki Cross and Big Damo were announced as the new suitors for PROGRESS. Scorchio marks Cross, now known as Nikki Storm, making her return to the UK indie scene as she takes on Session Moth Martina.
Additionally, Charles Crowley is set to face Cara Noir for the Men’s World Championship, and Alexxis Falcon will defend the Women’s Championship against Rhio. For Falcon, this is her third title defence over the weekend following previous matches in RevPro and TNT. Rhio earned the opportunity by winning the Super Strongstyle 16 tournament.
Some sound issues started off the show, which ring announcer Tom Campbell acknowledged. The production team tried the video again, but more sound issues. Session Moth Martina made her entrance with no music. The sound was finally fixed and Nikki Storm made her entrance. Despite being popular on the UK indies, Martina was the heel in this match. Very much an even contest between the two, Storm showed no signs of ring rust despite being away from a ring for an extended period. Martina thought about using the Atlas Championship as a weapon, but was caught by the cross body. Storm hit the neckbreaker to win the match.
Simon Miller vs. Scott Oberman was up next. Oberman made his entrance to Nothing Else Matters by Miller’s favourite band, Metallica. Miller’s entrance had much more energy with the Metallica anthem Creeping Death. Miller made references to Star Wars before playing a video package. Miller said it was a battle of the Metallica anthems, and Oberman struck Miller before the bell rang. Oberman nearly won quickly with Ride the Lightning. Oberman continued the attack and mocked Miller for being bald. Miller made his comeback and hit the spear to get the win.
Kouga vs. Joe Coffey was next. The match was very much a strong style with big hits throughout. Kouga won via submission. Bullit faced Spike Trivett next in a no DQ match. Bullit used a chair early on to attack Trivett and remained on offence. Trivett won with an avalanche chokeslam.
