Paul Wight has spoken out on where he stands with AEW after being away from TV for an extended period.
Wight has not competed on TV in over a year and has only appeared sporadically since his last match. With many names being released from the promotion in 2025, albeit some voluntarily, some fans have questioned whether the former World Champion is still All Elite.
Speaking with Bill Apter for Sportskeeda, Wight stated that not only is he still with AEW, but he is also very happy with Tony Khan and how the talent is treated:
“I am still with AEW. I am still very happy with AEW. Very happy with Tony Khan and what he is doing. I think there’s a lot of couch bookers out there who always have their best ideas out there on what should be done [Aren’t they the worst?] They aren’t the worst because everyone is entitled to their opinion. I appreciate Tony and the way he treats his talent. The kind of liberty Tony gives talent to discover themselves and to find themselves, it’s not a cookie-cutter process in AEW. It’s not ‘This is your ring entrance, this is how you pose, this is what you wear…’ AEW is very grassroots authentic, and for me, at this stage of the game, I appreciate that.”
Wight signed with AEW in February 2021 following a lengthy run in WWE.
When Did Paul Wight Last Wrestle?
The former World Champion’s last televised match took place in 2023 on the November 15th episode of Dynamite. The match saw Wight team with Kenny Omega, Chris Jericho and Kota Ibushi to take on Brian Cage, Powerhouse Hobbs, Konosuke Takeshita and Kyle Fletcher in a street fight. Wight was taken out of the match in the early stages after he was slammed onto a car by Hobbs.
Wight also competed on the 2024 Jericho cruise, which saw him team with Jericho and Mike Bailey to defeat Kyle Fletcher, Powerhouse Hobbs and Lance Archer.
