Paige has admitted that her surprise appearance on NXT came at very short notice!

The British star was revealed to be the one to answer NXT Women’s Champion Kelani Jordan’s open challenge as part of the November 4 episode. Paige was unsuccessful in her attempt to win the championship as Jordan countered the Ram-Paige into a roll-up.

Appearing on Busted Open Radio after the match, the WWE star stated that the call from Triple H came on short notice. Paige also joked that if she had more time to prepare, she may have been able to walk out as the new champion:

“I got called last minute. It wasn’t actually supposed to be me. Triple H pulled me aside in Brooklyn at the double taping and said, ‘Do you mind going down to NXT?’ I was like, ‘Oh sh*t. Yeah, definitely.’ It didn’t give me much time to prepare. Maybe if I prepared a little bit more, I would’ve won. It is what it is. I know what to do next time if I get a little bit of time.”

As well as the NXT Women’s Championship being defended on the show, the men’s title was on the line in the main event. Grayson Waller successfully defended his championship against CM Punk when Kevin Owens interfered in the match. Punk will face Owens in a no-holds-barred match on the next episode of SmackDown.

Paige Made NXT History In First Run

Paige was the inaugural NXT Women’s Champion after winning the title back in 2013. The British wrestler defeated Emma in the tournament final. Paige held onto the championship for 273 days before being stripped of the title. The reason for the reign coming to an end was because Paige had moved to the main roster.
