The status of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships has now been confirmed following Jade Cargill being written off TV.
On the November 22nd SmackDown, Cargill was seen attacked backstage in the parking lot. Following the attack, WWE and multiple outlets reported that Cargill had suffered a legitimate injury and would be out of action until further notice. With Cargill reigning as one half of the Women’s Tag Team Championships alongside Bianca Belair, it was unknown what would happen to the titles moving forward.
With many fearful that the curse had returned and the titles would need to be vacated again, Belair and Naomi met with General Manager Nick Aldis on the December 13th episode of SmackDown. Just as it appeared that the titles would be vacated, Naomi made the pitch to be Cargill’s replacement, which Aldis agreed to.
Conflicting Reports Emerge On Jade Cargill
Following the update from WWE that Jade Cargill was injured, some outlets claimed that the injury was entirely storyline and the SmackDown star was fine. However, this was later debunked. The latest update from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter stated that Cargill’s injury is legitimate:
One of the strangest stories remains the Cargill injury mystery. In recent weeks we’ve had multiple people internally say she’s injured, as is the angle, and others who weren’t sure, later said she was injured while others say she isn’t. We’ve gotten and seen reports from people internally who have said 100 percent she’s injured factually and others who say the opposite. Literally whatever it is, there are multiple people being told different things although those at the highest level are saying injured. I got a pretty detailed description from someone high on the food chain of what happened and they said that she is absolutely injured and seeing WWE doctors for it and other medical professionals for it. Nobody seems to understand why the other story of what they “know” is going around
