New TNT Champion Crowned At AEW Forbidden Door

TNT Champion

The TNT Championship is no longer vacant.

Taking place at the AEW Forbidden Door pay-per-view, Jack Perry defeated Konosuke Takeshita, Mark Briscoe, Dante Martin, Lio Rush, and El Phantasmo in a ladder match to win the title for the first time in his career. The chaotic match was everything that fans would expect in an AEW ladder match with bodies flying everywhere and multiple high spots. The closing moments of the match saw Perry attack Mark Briscoe with multiple ladder and chair strikes to take out the Ring of Honor World Champion and create a clear path to climb the ladder and win the championship. Perry is a former Tag Team Champion alongside Luchasauruas and a one-time FTW Champion.

Due to the victory, all 4 members of The Elite faction are now champions as The Young Bucks are the Tag Team Champions and Kazuchika Okada is the Continental Champion.

Why Was The TNT Championship Vacated?

At Double or Nothing, Adam Copeland successfully defended the title against Malakai Black in a barbed wire steel cage match. The match is best remembered for Copeland’s dive from the top of the cage, which left many fans immediately concerned due to Copeland’s bad landing. A few days later, the Hall of Famer confirmed that he suffered a broken tibia from the match and that he would require surgery. The Young Bucks attempted to simply award Perry the title on the next episode of Dynamite, but Christopher Daniels informed the EVPs that the aforementioned ladder match would instead take place.
