A new match has been announced for WWE’s next pay per view, Hell in A Cell. Roman Reigns will face Rey Mysterio inside of the steel structure on June 20th. The challenge was accepted on the SmackDown post-show, Talking Smack. Paul Heyman confirmed the challenge on behalf of Roman Reigns:
The match has been confirmed to both take place inside of Hell in A Cell and will be for the Universal Championship. The match was hinted on the June 11th episode of SmackDown, but has now been officially confirmed. This also confirms that both top men’s titles will be defended on June 20th inside of the Cell.
This match will be the first time that Rey Mysterio has ever had a match inside of the steel structure. For The Universal Champion, this will be the 5th. Reigns has never lost a Hell in A Cell match, with his current record being 3 victories over Bray Wyatt, Rusev and Jey Uso. The only match The Tribal Chief has not won inside Hell in A Cell was against Braun Strowman in 2018. This match ended in a no contest following interference from Brock Lesnar.

For challenger Rey, more is at stake than just The Universal Championship. Mysterio is looking to seek revenge for his son Dominik, following Roman’s attack on SmackDown. Coincidentally, Hell in A Cell also falls on Father’s Day.
The current card for Hell in A Cell is as follows:
- Roman Reigns (c) vs. Rey Mysterio – Hell in A Cell match for the Universal Championship.
- Bobby Lashley (c) vs. Drew McIntyre – Hell in A Cell match for the WWE Championship.
- Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Charlotte Flair – Singles match for the RAW Women’s Championship.
- Bianca Belair (c) vs. Bayley – Singles match for the SmackDown Women’s Championship.
