More details have been announced for The National Wrestling League, which is set to launch in the UK later in the year.
Following the initial announcement of the league, which will see 6 teams representing England and Scotland fight it out to see who is the best, more information has been provided on the remaining fixtures, how the league will be structured, and how managers will play a part in the matches.
Six teams will represent regions across the UK, with each team having its own badge and kit. Wrestlers will enter the ring wearing their club shirt, but they don’t have to wrestle in it. Replica shirts will be available to purchase at a later date.
The teams are as follows:
- Midlands Destroyers
- London Executioners
- Glasgow Hitmen
- Manchester Manics
- North East Outlaws
- Yorkshire Titans
More fixtures were also confirmed during the latest update, including which city will host the final:
- Matchweek 1: August 9 – Newcastle
- Matchweek 2: September 27 – Manchester
- Matchweek 3: October 10 – Glasgow
- Matchweek 4: 2027 TBC – Midlands
- Matchweek 5: 2027 TBC – Yorkshire
- Final week: 2027 TBC – London
The National Wrestling League UK Rules & Format
Match Rules
- Each singles or tag team match is 15 minutes with a half time break
- Teams score falls via pinfall, submission, count-out or DQ
- The team with the most falls at the end of the time limit is the winner
League Rules
- Every matchweek, teams face each other in two separate matches.
- 3 points are gained for each match win. 1 point is awarded to each team for a draw.
- If teams are level on points they are separated by ‘fall difference’.
- The team at the top of the league after matchweek 5 are the National Wrestling League champions.
- The team at the bottom of the league is relegated and replaced by a new team next season.
The Cup
- The final live event of the season will feature a one-night tag team tournament.
- The tournament will feature the 6 teams that competed in the league, plus the newly promoted team and an international guest team.
- Matches will follow the same rules as the league, but if the match ends in a draw then there will be sudden death extra-time.
Managers & Squads
- Each team has a manager who stays at ringside during matches, sat in their dugout or staying within their technical area.
- Managers may be assisted by unlimited guest coaches throughout the season.
- Managers will sign a minimum of two wrestlers before the start of the season. Once signed, wrestlers cannot switch teams.
- Managers can sign new wrestlers throughout the season, as long as they have not competed for a different team.
