MJF is now a 3-time AEW World Champion and kept his hair intact following the main event of Double or Nothing.
Closing out the May 24 pay-per-view, MJF defeated Darby Allin to win back his beloved title. Additionally, per the stipulation of the match, Maxwell Jacob Friedman did not have his head shaved, much to the relief of the new champion.
The closing moments of the match saw MJF hit a second rope tombstone, followed by the headlock takeover, to pick up the pinfall win. The headlock takeover has been significant as that has been a spot used all the way back to their rivalry in the indies, and was how Allin defeated MJF to win the title in the first place.
Allin was about to be stretchered out of the arena, but MJF looked to add insult to injury. Kevin chased the new champion away, but then hit a UFO splash onto Allin, turning heel.
MJF Keeps Hair, Wins Title, And Bests Darby Allin
The story heading into the match was as much about Allin’s health as it was MJF being shaved bald. Throughout Allin’s 40-day title reign, the now former champion defended the title 7 times. However, while Allin was worn down by consistently competing in tough matches, MJF was well rested for the match. Additionally, Allin took a considerable amount of punishment at Double or Nothing.
Notable spots included Allin landing on his head after a dive, and was bleeding from the back of his head following a coffin drop. As the New York Athletic Commission does not allow blood, this cut was done hard way.
