WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley has looked back on all the weapons he has been hit with and which one was the most painful.
Living up to his name of The Hardcore Legend, Foley has been involved in many brutal matches over the course of his career. From barbed wire to flaming tables to thumbtacks and everything in between, if it has been used in a match then there is a good chance that the Hall of Famer has been on the receiving end of. With this in mind, there is no one better than Foley to explain which weapons are the most painful in wrestling matches.
Appearing on Maven’s YouTube channel, Foley tier ranked some of the most popular weapons he had been struck with over the course of his career. Unsurprisingly, barbed wire was placed into the top category:
“When you string it up in place of the ring ropes. Not when it’s in addition to the ring ropes, but a substitute, when the ropes are gone, no one thinks less of you if you are not doing it all. But if you’re gonna do it, do it. It’s not just man against man, it’s man against environment, because the wire is a thing. The danger is when it catches you, it tears you, it can leave you in noticeably worse condition. I nearly lost my pinky. I got cut bad and lost some feeling in my fingers.”
When asked if he preferred working with real or gimmicked barbed wire, Foley stated that while he enjoyed working with real barbed wire, he appreciates the increased safety:
“I’ve had really good matches with both. If you are in Japan it’s never gimmicked. I would say when you can get 95% of the reaction with a fraction of the risk, it’s worth doing. I like the idea of knowing it was real, but I was lacerated well over a hundred times, none of them that serious. There were a couple of bad ones, but it was like you go to a doctor and he’s like, ‘I’ve heard about this in prison breaks. Why would you do this?’ I don’t know how much more realistic it looked.”
Mick Foley Admits Ladders Also Suck!
Later in the video, Foley also ranked the ladder as one of the worst weapons to be hit with, and explained why:
“So ladders, say a powerbomb on the ladder. You do it in line and you get it perfectly, it’s still gonna hurt like hell. You powerbomb somebody across, instead of with it, you could be looking at the end of somebody’s career. Joey Mercury nearly lost an eye. I think it’s a career shortener, I really do. I know it’s great when there are tables ladders and chairs, but there is so much going on. Best case scenario you are brusing in your elbow, your struggling for weeks with nagging injuries. Worst case scenario, you shorten your career.”
