Mercedes Mone had a very successful debut in AEW.
Taking place at the AEW Double or Nothing pay-per-view, Mone defeated Willow Nightingale to win the TBS Championship in her first match since signing with the company back at the Big Business special back in March.
Mone won the match after pinning Nightingale after hitting the Mone Maker finisher on the former champion. Nightingale had the match won at one point but Kris Statlander and Stokely Hathaway distracting the referee allowed Mone to kick out. After the match, Statlander attacked Nightingale to cement her heel turn.
Mone’s victory brings Nightingale’s reign to an end at just 35 days, the shortest in the history of the TBS Championship. Nightingale defeated Julia Hart at the Dynasty pay-per-view back in April to win her first title in AEW.
This was the second title change to take place on the show as Will Ospreay won the International Championship in the opening match of the main card.
Mercedes Mone Makes A Statement
Prior to her debut, Mone made multiple media appearances to promote her match and the show as a whole. During an interview with The Ringer, Mone made a bold claim about her wrestling abilities:
“They haven’t really got to see the CEO. They know who Sasha Banks is, but the CEO, Mercedes Moné, [is] something they’ve never seen before, and I’m ready to show them. I’m the greatest women’s wrestler of all time, 100 percent.”
