AEW star and reigning TBS Champion Mercedes Mone has commented on the long-awaited return of the all-women’s Premium Live Event WWE Evolution.
July 13 will see the return of the event for the first time in 7 years. Although fans have been calling for a follow-up ever since the inaugural show, with many wanting to see Evolution become a yearly fixture, WWE has held off on hosting a second event.
Mone, who previously competed in WWE as Sasha Banks, was in action at the first Evolution PLE, where she teamed with Bayley and Natalya to defeat The Riott Squad. Although The CEO is now signed to AEW and won’t be a part of the follow-up show, she did have some thoughts on the announcement.
“It’s About Time”: Mercedes Mone On WWE Evolution 2
Speaking on an Instagram livestream, Mone was asked about Evolution 2, to which the TBS Champion stated that it has been too long:
“Any thoughts about Evolution 2? I think it’s about time. They waited way too long to have an all-women’s pay-per-view, but I love and will always support and be a huge advocate for women’s wrestling. So, I’m excited for that, for the women that get to perform on that.”
The night before Evolution, Mone will be looking to add to her championship collection as she will challenge Toni Storm for the Women’s Championship at AEW All In. Mone currently also reigns as RevPro’s Undisputed British Women’s Champion, CMLL’s World Women’s Champion and the EWA Women’s Championship.
