Melissa Coates, also known by the ring name of “Super Genie” has passed away aged 50 years old. The news was first reported by Cauliflower Alley Club’s Twitter account in the early hours of June 24th UK time. The Twitter account has been created to assist wrestlers who have fallen on difficult financial times. At the time of writing, no cause of death has been announced.
Super Genie was best known for her professional and personal relationship with ECW legend Sabu. Melissa Coates started as a bodybuilder before transitioning to the wrestling world in 2002. Melissa was trained by Killer Kowalski and made appearances for both Ohio Valley Wrestling and NWA throughout the mid to late 2000’s. Super Genie has also made appearances in major promotions IMPACT Wrestling and WWE. In the segment for IMPACT, Melissa appeared alongside Sabu to help fellow ECW legends Tommy Dreamer and Rob Van Dam:
Unfortunately, Melissa suffered complications from blood clots in late 2020. As a result, her left leg had to be amputated. A GoFundMe page was set up to help cover the cost of the medical bills for this operation.
