Matt Cardona could become All Elite very soon!
Since being released from his WWE contract in 2020, the former Zack Ryder underwent a complete overhaul of his character thanks to his work in GCW and on the independents. Competing in deathmatches and in promotions all around the world, Cardona made it his mission to prove that this was a whole new persona and that Ryder was indeed dead.
More than 4 years later and Cardona has remained one of the biggest act on the indies. However, Cardona has also made multiple appearances for TNA and AEW but has yet to sign anything long-term with either brand. According to a new report, this could be changing soon.
On December 20th, Cardona will challenge Chris Jericho for the Ring of Honor World Championship at Final Battle. Discussing Cardona on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer stated that there has been talk of Cardona signing with AEW:
“I know that there was at least talk of Cardona getting an AEW contract. I don’t know if it’s gonna happen or not [or] if he’s already agreed. I guess we’ll find out, obviously if he beats Jericho. Which I don’t expect to happen but if he does obviously, they won’t do it unless he’s under contract.”
Prior to his feud with Jericho, Cardona was revealed to be a surprise opponent for Adam Copeland, back in March. In subsequent interviews, Cardona stated that this was the match he always wanted to have.
Matt Cardona Attacked On Home Turf
On December 14th, Cardona competed in his latest match against Effy at the GCW show Highest in the Room 3. The match had a shocking conclusion as both men were attacked by Chris Jericho, who made an unannounced appearance at the event.
