LA Knight is the new United States Champion in a victory that many fans believe is long overdue.
Defeating Logan Paul at SummerSlam, The Megastar finally won his first championship on the main roster in front of a packed stadium in Cleveland, Ohio. Paul was accompanied by Machine Gun Kelly and Knight attacked the Prime truck he stole the night before on SmackDown.
Knight sent Paul into the Prime station and repeatedly into the announce table before the opening bell rang. With the match finally underway Paul displayed his athleticism with Knight also busting out some new moves. While it appeared at one point that Paul was going to retain the title with the KO punch, Knight kicked out. The closing moments of the match saw Paul handed brass knuckles by MGK at striking Knight but Knight hit the BFT to ultimately win the match and the title.
Knight has made it clear for weeks that he was going to go after Paul and win the US Championship in the process, including an unannounced visit to Paul’s home earlier in the year. Despite being on the main roster since 2022, Knight has never won a championship up until this point despite being a firm favourite to win the Money in the Bank briefcase in 2023.
Many were hoping that Paul would lose the title partly due to Knight’s overwhelming popularity among the WWE Universe and partly due to Paul making controversial comments regarding the Paris 2024 Olympics, which saw the former United States Champion incorrectly refer to Imane Khelif as a male. The victory brings to an end Paul’s US Title reign at 273 days and in just the 3rd defence of the title.
LA Knight Validates Main Roster Run
While this is Knight’s first reign as a champion in WWE, The Megastar has been involved with a number of notable names during his time in the company. Along with a recent partnership with John Cena, LA Knight also shared the ring with The Undertaker prior to his match against Bray Wyatt at the Royal Rumble.
