Kenny Omega made his shock return to NJPW on October 12 at the King of Pro Wrestling show, confronting the promotion’s top champion in the process.
Following IWGP World Champion Yota Tsuji defeating G1 Climax winner Ryohei Oiwa to retain the title, the lights went out and Omega appeared on screen. The AEW star called out Tsuji for not appearing at Forbidden Door, reminding the champion that the I in IWGP stands for International.
Tsuji responded to Omega that if he wants the title, he needs to make his way over to Japan. Omega then appeared live at the Ryōgoku Kokugikan to attack Tsuji with a V Trigger and a One Winged Angel. Omega said that Tsuji had “no class” and reminded the champion that he is also a New Japan legend. Omega then said that he would speak with New Japan’s President, Hiroshi Tanahashi, to arrange a future title match.
Although nothing has been announced at the time of writing, it is likely that the match will take place at Wrestle Kingdom 21 on January 4, 2027.
When Did Kenny Omega Last Wrestle In NJPW?
Omega’s last New Japan match was in January 2025 as part of the Wrestle Dynasty event. After being away from the ring for over a year after contracting diverticulitis, The Cleaner made a successful return to the ring with a victory over Gabe Kidd. Omega has competed on the last 2 Forbidden Door shows, which were a collaboration between AEW and NJPW in the United States,
As well as being a former IWGP World, Intercontinental and United States Champion in his own right, Omega was also the first gaijin to win the G1 Climax tournament.
