John Cena will make his first defence of the Undisputed Championship at WWE Backlash against an opponent he is very familiar with.
As announced on the April 25th SmackDown, which was also the first episode of the show following WrestleMania, Cena will put the title on the line against Randy Orton on May 10th in St. Louis, Missouri, which is also Orton’s hometown.
After hitting Cena with an RKO on the Raw after Mania, Orton interrupted Cena for a second time on SmackDown. Orton questioned Cena’s heel turn and advised him to have kids, to which Cena retorted that he had spent the past 25 years raising other people’s kids and insulted the fans. Cena then stated that he would put the title on the line against Orton in The Viper’s hometown so that Orton could compete in front of his family. Cena attempted to strike Orton with the gold but was once again laid out with an RKO. The match was later made official for Backlash and is the only match announced for the Premium Live Event at the time of writing.
John Cena vs. Randy Orton: One Final Time?
Although the match has been announced as a standard singles match, it has been recently reported that John Cena vs. Randy Orton will eventually be billed as one last time, meaning that Orton will not be Cena’s final opponent at the end of the year.
