John Cena Says WWE "Is In Great Hands" As Retirement Nears

John Cena has addressed the future of WWE as his retirement fast approaches.

Now that it is July, fans have less than 6 months to see the 17-time World Champion live as an active Superstar. With Cena being the biggest star of the 21st century, many believe that there will be a noticeable gap when the Hollywood star officially calls time on his in-ring career. However, with many stars on the rise and WWE arguably hotter than ever before, Cena believes that the company has nothing to worry about when its biggest star rides off into the sunset.

While appearing on UK talk show This Morning on July 2 to promote his new movie Heads of State with Idris Elba, Cena was asked about his retirement and if he would really retire in December:

“I can understand the entertainment industry may have set an ambiguous standard about what retirement is. I’m 48 years old and I made a promise when I started getting success in WWE way back around 2004. I promised the audience when I felt I lost a step, it was time to step away. The company has so many stars. They’re in great hands. The industry has allowed me to perform in front of crowds, like the crazy crowds in the O2, for 25 years. I just wanted to do something different. No WWE Superstar has ever really retired. So this is for sure the end for me. My last match is in the middle of December.”

John Cena Retirement Tour To Roll Into New York For SummerSlam

Following the events that took place at Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia, Cena now knows who his opponent will be at SummerSlam in New York in August. As Cens retained the WWE Championship over CM Punk in the main event and Cody Rhodes won the King of the Ring tournament in the opening match, a WrestleMania 41 rematch will be taking place at the Biggest Party of the Summer.

There are 15 dates left on the Cena retirement tour.
