John Cena has continued his streak of competing in at least one match on TV every year since his debut.
Having previously appeared in the main event of WrestleMania 40 to help Cody Rhodes finish the story, Cena was expected to once again return to his acting commitments and the Mania appearance was a one-off, or so fans thought.
On the Raw after WrestleMania, new Tag Team Champion R-Truth celebrated alongside The Judgment Day, much to the chagrin of the faction. As The Miz came to the aid of his partner, a tag team match was set up that saw Dominik Mysterio, Finn Balor and JD McDonagh face off against The Awesome Truth and who Truth described as “The man they couldn’t see.”
As the match went on, The Judgment Day took control before Cena’s music played through the arena. The 16-time World Champion helped The Awesome Truth win the match and allowed R-Truth to team up with his childhood hero as all 3 Superstars got the pinfall victory.
When Will John Cena Return?
Prior to the shock appearance, Cena made an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show to look back on WrestleMania and what’s next for him in WWE. Admitting that he is pretty tied up with acting commitments, Cena stated that he hopes to be back in early 2025:
“I have to leave for Europe to finish a movie that we started filming before the strike called Heads of State with Priyanka Chopra and Idris Elba, straight from that to [filming] Peacemaker 2. That will take us to just about Christmas. I’m crossing my fingers and toes and my heart that maybe, just maybe, I can tell the Hollywood world to pump the breaks for a while and come back to my family for one last run. I’m trying, I hope [so], we’ll see what happens.”
