John Cena will make another WWE appearance at Backlash.
Update: Following the initial advertisement, Cena posted a follow-up on social media that he would be at the Premium Live Event and would deliver a big announcement for the fans:
Original story: The Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, which will host Backlash on May 9, has the following statement on its website advertising the 17-time World Champion for the show:
JOHN CENA RETURNS TO TAMPA AT BACKLASH!
It should be noted that at the time of writing, no update has been provided by WWE regarding this. Additionally, Cena is not listed on the event page for Backlash, and card is always subject to change. Cena previously alluded to making an appearance in Tampa with a cryptic social media post.
Cena last appeared as the host of WrestleMania 42. On night 1, Cena announced the attendance for the show before being interrupted by Bianca Belair, who announced that she was pregnant with her first child. The following night, Cena was interrupted by The Miz and Kit Wilson, who demanded their WrestleMania moment. Miz and Wilson were then interrupted by Danhausen, who dispatched the duo with a group of mini wrestlers.
John Cena Headlined WWE Backlash 2025
After winning his record-breaking 17th World Championship at WrestleMania 41, Cena’s first title defence took place at Backlash. Emanating from St. Louis, Missouri, Cena put the title on the line against hometown hero and long-time rival Randy Orton. Cena retained the championship in what was their final encounter. Cena competed in his final match at Saturday Night’s Main Event in December, losing via submission to Gunther.
